Uneasy no settle is the world's largest online travel company specialising in responsible tourism. We offer over 5,000 vacations, across 180 countries. Every trip on our site is screened for its commitment to responsible tourism. In addition, we are an online publisher, publishing over 400 travel guides and articles.

The company has been around since 2001; we grew rapidly in 2017 and aim to expand further in 2018.

    The role
    An exciting opportunity has arisen to work on our publishing team in our Brighton office helping to create and build inspiring imaged based content. Our aim is to make sure that every person who visits the site is wowed by their visual experience. We hope the imagery they see will evoke an emotional response that resonates with them, making them want to return to Uneasy no settle and to tell their friends and family about us too.

    Most of the work produced will be for our online travel guides. Working with content from our writers, you will be image sourcing and building the guide content in our bespoke content management system. You must have an excellent eye for photography when it comes to selecting imagery that fits our style guidelines, as well as meticulous observational and organisational skills when building the content to ensure the guides follow design consistencies and layouts. As well as building guides at a high standard, you must also be able to produce work in short timeframes so the ability to work under pressure is key.

    As well as building travel guides you will be asked to make layout mock up designs in Photoshop for changes and new ideas across the site. This can be from a more complex redesign of whole pages, to smaller changes such as how something might look in a different colour on a page. There will be occasional graphical jobs from editing logos and other vector based elements and on rare occasions print based jobs may be required for signage, posters and postcards to support marketing projects when they arise.

    For this role you must be efficient in Adobe Photoshop with the ability to edit images and prepare them for web and on occasion, print. A good understanding of Adobe Illustrator would be advantageous as there may also be occasion for editing graphical content. An understanding of Adobe InDesign and basic html would be desirable but not essential.     Key skills required
    • A fantastic eye for photography
    • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop with good understanding of Adobe Illustrator
    • Ability to edit images, designs and layouts using Photoshop for web and print and understanding of difference between pixel and vector based graphics
    • Excellent organisational skills and meticulous eye for detail
    • Basic understanding of InDesign and HTML desirable
    • Be very articulate with a good level of written and spoken english
    • Sound travel knowledge and a passion for travel
    • An empathy with and basic understanding of responsible tourism
    • Be motivated by hitting and beating targets
    • Ability to show initiative and be confident in taking on new tasks
    • Ability to self-manage and prioritise
    • Ability to work under pressure and remain calm and cheerful

    Remuneration & benefits
    Salary - 25,000 per annum.

    Benefits include - being part of generous profit share scheme, the ability to take a half day a month to volunteer with a local cause that you feel passionately about, 1 or 2 full volunteering days out as a company per year. 21 days vacation rising to a max of 26 after 5 years and a staff health plan.

    Contracted working hours are 40 hours a week (including 1 hour lunch break).

    Summary

    The UK Adventure division constitutes, amongst others both the Exodus Travels & Headwater brands, and offers a diverse range of experiences to a wide range of discerning customers in multiple markets including North America and Australasia. Its an exciting time to join as there are big growth opportunities across the brands, and significant challenges that face us in terms of Product enrichment, development and management, as well as the commercial management of the Exodus and Headwater portfolios.

    What you will be doing
    To champion Responsible Tourism throughout Exodus focussing on the companies guiding principles of EEE Education, Empowerment and Environment. To ensure the places and communities we visit are positively impacted by tourism, and to work with our third party networks agency sales, leaders, suppliers, PR, etc ensuring maximum exposure and impact. To be an internal and external ambassador on Responsible Tourism for Exodus.

    Specific tasks to include:
    • Product
      • Work with Product team to ensure RT adds value to current and new products, engaging clients and benefiting the communities and environments we visit.
      • Set standards for improving RT specific product content; coordinate the production and delivery of all RT literature (including for third parties e.g. responsibletravel.com).
    • Marketing
      • Provide editorial oversight for all RT related items, and content ideas and direction to enable embedding of RT into on and offline communication.
      • To own, with Marketing, all relevant RT pages in on and offline company content.
      • Generate ideas for campaigns and work with Marketing to deliver establish Exodus as change makers.
    • Operational Quality
      • Monitor feedback (including HEF comments, reviews and complaints) and provide direction to product, Operational Quality and suppliers to ensure best practice. To provide input and training to Customer Services on relevant complaints.
      • Identify best practice within our leaders and suppliers, acknowledge it and facilitate sharing.
      • Provide input to all relevant operator communications, including contracts, minimum standards documentation and Operator Conferences, with regards to RT, their involvement, industry best practice and our objectives.
    • Operations
      • Input on how to embed RT into the customer booking journey e.g. FJIs, Destination Guides, return emails.
      • To act as the primary point of contact for all RT related queries from clients.
    • Fundraising and Project Governance
      • To ensure all Exodus projects, campaigns and initiatives meet our guiding principles on RT.
      • To research and maintain best practice in managing funds, and ensure appropriate project governance and sustainability.
    • Internal
      • Lead any RT meetings and chair RT Committee.
      • Provide RT updates at staff meetings, to overseas offices, and RT inductions to all new starters.
      • Help oversee RT funds and their allocation.
      • Engage all staff (including overseas offices) with RT.
      • Integrate RT into staff travel process.
      • To represent Exodus at industry events including, but not limited to slideshows, travel shows and partner events and when appropriate complete relevant RT award applications and submissions.

    Key skills / competencies
    • Ability to prioritise and manage workloads on a day to day basis.
    • Strong geographical and travel knowledge, a passion for adventure and sustainability.
    • Higher education in a subject relevant to Responsible Tourism and Sustainability. Well-connected in the field.
    • Experience in relevant third sector or NGO organisation, and knowledge of charity governance an advantage.
    • IT literate (especially Excel, PowerPoint and Word), good attention to detail, strong analytical and creative writing skills, and a willingness to learn.
