Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Cusco to Machu Picchu short tour

Environment

We support operations committed to reduce negative impacts in all ecosystems found in the landscapes or parks we visit, or do their best to achieve this. In this case the Amaru Village is at the stage of including ways to reduce solid waste, save water and energy as part of their services and also to use this approach to improve its living standards, benefiting all its inhabitants and therefore help protect their fragile surrounding environment.

The community has built infrastructure using local materials, has ensured to offer comfortable bedrooms, safe drinking water and basic sanitary services. The food in this place is a mixed of locally-produced and other that has traveled from nearby valleys, allowing you to enjoy the local cuisine. Meals offered includes several varieties of potato, corn, the nutritious quinua, and other grains and vegetables produced in the community hillsides, using gentle agricultural practices in a still productive landscape presently supporting a relatively intense land use.

Community

Besides our proud local guides and drivers, this special tour is also hosted by award-winning Amaru Village, one of many Quechua communities along the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Groups of women here, who have expertise in traditional textiles complement their other present economic activities; mostly low-yielding agriculture and cattle, with tourism.

As a company, we have a premise of supporting local efforts which can help improve living standards and environmental protection, which will allow Andean communities to achieve sound growth and development and a more sustained way to manage fragile landscapes still productive and functional for the benefit of their future generations. In early September 2015, we have signed a cooperative agreement with representatives of the Amaru Village and CODESU, an international development NGO which is presently sponsoring training and coaching in tourism development to interested members of the Amaru Village.

We are glad to be helping the Amaru Village and we also hope our travelers will also be part of this effort that will also ensure the protection of the lifestyles and ancestral culture of this unique community that still guards the knowledge inherited inside a precious Andean landscape not far from Cusco City.
